Brightspace Communication Tab

D2L Communication Tab
The Communications Tab like the Resources tab on the Brightspace Course homepage lists several tools that are inactive unless your instructor activates them for the course. These tools are the Chat, Discussions, and Groups tools.

The most commonly used tools from the communications tab are the Classlist, Discussions, and Blog tools. Check below for help using these tools.

The News tool allows the student to see any News the instructor has posted for the course. News items are typically located on the Course Home page so this item is not always needed. Still, if students think they have missed a News item, the News tool is accessible from the Communications tab.

PLEASE NOTE: if a tool does not work properly, contact D2L Support directly at (866) 854-0013 or submit a support ticket via the internet Support Ticket Link. D2L support is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.

The Blog Tool

The Blog tool is all about sharing information on topics of interest to the user. Students can create their own blog, access other public blogs, and set up a Blog List to watch the blogs of others.

The Classlist Tool

D2L Communication Tab
The Classlist tool enables students to see a list of students and instructors in their course as well as contact in various ways. The primary way to contact users in the classlist is by email but access is also available via the Blog tool as well.

The Classlist tool is pretty straightforward to use but D2L has created a simple video on how to use it. To view a video created by D2L regarding using the Classlist tool, Select this Video link.

The Discussions Tool

The Discussion tool is a collaboration area to post, read, and reply to threads on different topics. As such, it is common for faculty to assign and grade discussion posts as a normal part of the course. Students are able to create a thread, view a topic, reply to a thread and even subscribe to a discussion.
